Description

  • Pier Leone Ghezzi
  • Portrait of a man in profile, wearing a hat
  • Pen and brown ink within brown ink framing lines

Provenance

Baron Dominique Vivant-Denon (L.779);
Sir John Witt,
his sale, London, Sotheby's, 19 February 1987, lot 326, purchased by Ralph Holland

Condition

Hinge mounted and laid down on paper. There is some minor discolouration to the paper commensurate with age. There is a small repaired tear to the left edge and another to the lower edge. There is an area of some small repaired holes to the hat and in the surrounding area above it, although these do not detract from the aesthetic appeal of the work. There are some very minor nicks to the edges of the sheet. The pen and ink medium is still fresh and vibrant throughout.
