Condition
Laid down on the Skippe mount. A loss to the right lower margin, this seem to have been caused by a defect in the manufacturing of the paper. Two small losses to the lower right center near the edge. Possibly an old vertical fold to the left and a straight vertical line to the right and on the left corner. Some small brown and black staining scattered throughtout, especially towards the margins.

Catalogue Note
Although sold as Maratti in the Skippe sale, the present quick study, possibly a preliminary idea for a Saint Januarius, is quite close to the graphic style of Mattia Preti. It does not seem to be connected with any known work by the artist.
