Catalogue Note

Only the Blackmer copy is recorded at auction. Maximilian travelled in the Levant in 1838, and was accompanied by von Mayr. This work, which contains different subjects from those in von Mayr’s earlier Malerische Ansichten aus dem Orient (Leipzig, 1839, see previous lot), contains many fine, often lively views in Cairo, Alexandria and Syria, including detailed costume studies and interiors.
