Catalogue Note

This work describes the voyage made by Chenavard, Etienne Rey and others during 1843-1844 and includes many fine views of Athens (almost one third of the total), Delphi and Ithaca, as well as a small number of views in Egypt. Etienne Rey published his own very similar account in 1867 (see lot 115).

Brunet notes that only two hundred copies were printed. It was intended that forty livraisons were to be issued, each containing four plates to total 160 plates. However, only half the number actually appeared.
