Catalogue Note
Montpensier travelled in Egypt and the Levant in 1845 on board the Gomer, where Sinety served as a lieutenant. His visit to the East was mainly of a political nature: Mehmet Ali became a member of the French Legion of Honour after his visit, and the following year Ibrahim Pacha made an official visit to Paris.
The plates depict views in Tunis (2), Carthage (2), Cairo (3), Suez, Siout, Assouan, Philae, Luxor, the Pyramids, Damietta, Constantinople (3), Broussa (4), Sunium, Corinth, Eurotas, Sparta, Mistra, Taygetus, Mount Ithome, Messenia, Cryssa and Delphes.
