Catalogue Note
“Renouard de Bussière visited Constantinople, where he was resident for some time; he then made an excursion through the Aegean archipelago to Egypt. The work contains a long description of Santorini in volume one. Apparently de Bussière was closely attached to French diplomatic circles. The fine plates are lithographed by Engelmann after drawings by Renouard de Bussière, and depict views in Constantinople, Bursa, Lesbos, Tenedos, and Egypt” (Atabey).
The extra illustrations comprise two double-page maps; one of Egypt and the Hejaz coast by Lapie, the other of modern Greece by A. Brué.
