the rounded sides well-carved in low relief with a pair of taotie masks against a leiwen ground divided by a pair of upright everted handles, all raised on a splayed foot bordered with key pattern, the domed cover carved in openwork with scrolling lotus, bats and lingzhi, surmounted by a coiled chilong knop, the translucent stone suffused with pale, milky inclusions, with wood stand (3)

Provenance

Acquired in Beijing circa 1900, and thence by descent.

Condition

There are minor nicks to the rim and inside of the cover, the footring,and the edges of the finial. There is minor chipping to the edge of one handle. Additionally there is a 1/4 in (0.6 cm) long section on the rim of the cover that has been lightly polished, and a 3/4 in (1.9 cm) long section to the outer rim of the censor that has been polished.
