the elegant broad shouldered body rising from a spreading recessed base to a short waisted neck, painted around the exterior in rich dark cobalt-blue tones with a broad band of peacocks in flight over leafy scrolling lotus, all between lotus and ruyi bands at the base and shoulder and a crane and ruyi cloud band at the neck
Condition
The jar has old repair to five small flakes at the rim (1.6, 1.5, 1.3, 1 and 0.8cm., wide), a 3cm., hairline rim crack, a hariline crack encircling 3/4 of the foot with an old staple repair and associated flaking and loss to the glaze, and minor glaze firing imperfections including glaze pulls below the rim and glaze pinholes. It should be noted that the blue is of a richer slightly darker tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest.
