Description

carved seated on a pierced rocky plinth, his left leg raised and arms lifted to his left chest holding wine and a cup, dressed in a tunic and loose-fitting trousers incised with cloud scrolls and lotus sprays, the face with large round eyes and a cheerful smile, his hair neatly combed into curled strands falling on the back, the stone of a greyish tone suffused with dark vermilion inclusions

Condition

The figure is in fair condition, the hands may be broken and re-stuck, with traces of red paint around the wrists. There is a 3cm crack to the top of the head, which extends vertically down the forehead. There are chips and losses to the extremities such as the hem of the robe to the reverse (2x0.5cm). The painting is rubbed in places, with overpainting evident around the shoes. There are natural veining with associated flakes. The actual colour is slightly darker compared to the catalogue illustration.
