the large beast carved recumbent with two young beside, grasping a leafy blooming floral spray in its mouth, finely detailed with bulging rounded eyes, flaring nostrils, bushy and tightly coiled eyebrows, beard, mane and tail, the stone of a pale celadon tone with milky-white inclusions and faint russet veins

Aquired in London in the 1950s.
A Dutch Private Collection.

Condition

The carving is in general good condition with the exception of possible light bruises and minute nibbling along the extremities including the edges of the leaves. There is a 0.2 x 0.1cm chip to one of the floral petals. There is a circa 3cm russet vein with associate flakes around the rear haunches of one cub.
