Description

  • metal, cloisonne, glass, yellow silk
each of square section, the upper and lower bulbs decorated in a cloisonné enamel framework of floral scrolls between a bat at the top and a stylised lotus near the base, inset with glass panels painted with bat, lingzhi, leafy sprays of prunus, peony and orchid and lined with yellow silk, the sides decorated with pierced panels of lotus and foliate scroll

Condition

These lanterns are in reasonable condition, but there is cracking to the enamel to one side of one and some areas of enamel loss to the centre and upper right side of the same lantern. There is a small area of restoration to the enamel to the centre right of on side and the upper centre scrolls and to the lower left wing of the bat to the other side of the other lantern. There are also minor chips and losses to the enamel. There is some rubbing to the gilding to the sides of both lanterns.
