Description

the rounded sides rising from a spreading foot, painted with a continuous design of figures from Shui Hu Zhuan (Water Margin) in a mountainous landscape, with a thin band of scrolling foliage at the shoulder, below a wide band of stylised tulip to the waisted neck

Acquired in China in the late 19th century.

Condition

A 6mm shallow chip to rim with a possibly associated 4mm glaze flake; two further rim frits. Otherwise in good general condition, with a light surface wear and a firing crack to base.
