of hexalobed section, the domed cover deftly carved in undercut relief with four figures gathered around a scholar reclining against a table, all set in a fenced garden landscape with trees and plantain, the sides of the cover and the box decorated with quatrefoil cartouches each enclosing leafy lotus sprays and reserved against a diaper ground, all bordered by keyfret bands, the interior and the base lacquered dark brown, inscribed and gilt with a six-character mark, Japanese wood box

Condition
The box and cover are in good condition with the exception of some over-painting to the diaper ground and key-fret band (at 3 o'clock) of the cover, to a small area of the keyrfret band and rim (at 7 o'clock) of the cover covering an associated 1cm., hairline rim crack, and some re-freshing to the underside rim of the cover and inner flange of the box.
