Description
- gouache on paper, mirror and wood frames
gouache on paper, each painted with a riverside garden scene with elaborate pavilions and tall trees, one depicting lady musicians and two attendants at the court, the other with ladies and a child, mirrored gilt-wood frame
Condition
One painting has two vertical crease lines running along the left and right edge, the former one has another approx. 2.5cm crease line running perpendicular to it near the lower bottom. There are associated paint loss and tear, with possible repainting to the upper left part near the trees. The top left part has a 6cm horizontal scratch. There are minor foxing, dirt, and other minor crease lines. The frame is cracked at the corners with losses to the gesso and gilding.
The other painting has a 2cm horizontal tear to the right edge along the middle of the painting. There are light foxing, minor creases, paint loss and surface wear. The frame has minor cracks along the left side.
Both frames have been strengthened with metal plates and added hooks to the reverse.
