Description

each of rectangular form, the doors finely embellished with soapstone, mother-of-pearl, bone, jadeite, agate and other hardstones to depict numerous boys at play and groups of ladies playing weiqi and musical instruments, all within a garden setting with a tiered pavilion and over-hanging pine and wutong trees, all framed by a mother-of-pearl lozenge border and shaped cartouches enclosing various floral sprays against a lozenge diaper ground, the sides similarly embellished with chrysanthemum, peony and prunus blossoms, with metal lockplate and hinges

Condition

In general good condition, both cabinets with extensive chips, dents and cracks with traces of overpainting, particularly to the edges and corners. There is also minor loss to the inlays and gilding. One cabinet with wooden shelves which have been repainted and framed paintings to the interior. There are areas of overpainting at the top mid-section of the doors and along the edges. The legs are set with metal. The other cabinet is set with glass shelves with mirrors, also repainted and with framed paintings to the interior. The metal handle on both doors have been broken with missing pieces. The left hinge is broken and secured with a wood bream. There is a large chip (4x1cm) off the front right leg and other chips and losses around the other legs, particularly at the bottom. The bottom left corner of the left door has a 1x2cm chip. There are areas of repainting, such as a 6x3cm area to the top right corner of the right door.
