AN INSCRIBED BLUE AND WHITE WATER JAR MARK AND PERIOD OF DAOGUANG, DATED IN ACCORDANCE TO 1822

in the form of a cylindrical bucket encircled by two ribs and set with a handle formed of rectangular tabs joined by a stretcher, decorated on one side with two scholars in a flat-bottomed boat floating on calm waters towards a tall overhanging cliff-face, the reverse inscribed with verses of Su Shi's Chibi fu ('Ode to the Red Cliff'), the interior painted with an aquatic scene, the base dated with an eight-character mark in underglaze blue further numbering the group of similar vessels to twenty pieces

A section of the handle consisting of one of the tab and the horizontal stretcher has broken off and been re-affixed with glue. There is a 6 x 1 cm flake to the exterior of the rim near the repaired tab and old staple marks on the bucket and tab each side of the break. There are firing imperfections on the interior including firing cracks encircling the bottom of the bucket. There are some frits and small chips around the base.
