ink on paper, recording the thirty-six views of the Imperial Summer Palace in Jehol as selected by the Qianlong Emperor, based on the original thirty-six views choosen by the Kangxi Emperor, and accompanied by a prologue by the emperor titled Yuzhi zaiti Bishushanzhuang sanshiliu jing shi ('To re-inscribe the poems of the 36 views of the Imperial Palace in Jehol') with an apocryphal Qianlong seal Bazheng maonian zhi bao ('Treasure of the Eighty-year old who concerns himself with the Eight Signs') and an apocryphal Jiaqing seal Tianlu ji jian ('Continued connoisseurship for the Tianlu Linlang Library') on the inside cover page, all inscribed in standard script signed Li Zongwan followed with two seals, further bound in a concertina album between yellow brocade covers with title slip Yuzhi sanshiliu jing ('Imperial thirty-six views')

The prologue by the Qianlong Emperor can read:

'The 36 views of the Summer Palace were given names by my grandfather, who also ordered prints of them. This summer I came to the Summer Palace and felt that in addition to the original 36 views, there are other beautiful views, so that I re-edit them and record the 36 views I selected here with 28 words to describe each of them. These include some of the original ones as well as some new ones. This project reveals the endless treasures of the Nature, and even from the 'old', there can be discover some 'new'.'

Li Zongwan (1705-1759) was a court artist and calligrapher active at the court during the reign of the Qianlong Emperor.
