Description
finely potted with gently flared sides supported on a slightly tapered foot, decorated around the exterior with a peony tree growing on a grassy patch, its gnarled branches extending towards each side of the bowl sprouting iron-red, pale green and magenta blossoms, with an auspicious lozenge (fangsheng) further hanging in the tree and a blue-enamelled bat grasping a wan symbol fluttering on the reverse, all between multi-coloured petal panels around the base and pendent turquoise ruyi collaring the rim, the base inscribed in iron-red with a six-character reign mark
Provenance
Sotheby's Hong Kong, 30th October 2000, lot 220.
Condition
There are a few tiny pin-prick air bubbles on the rim and very minute original nibbling under the glaze. There are some small traces of gilding further remaining on the rim above the gilt fillet which may indicate that it was originally fully gilt. Apart from this, the bowl is in overall good condition.
