Catalogue Note

The spirited fluid movement of the hippocamp with flowing tousled mane and body terminating in a dolphin's tail and the deeply drilled locks of the putto's hair point to a sculptor working in the tradition of the Roman Baroque fountain sculptures so popularized by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
