Provenance
Sotheby's London, 10 December 1981, lot 194
Condition
Overall the condition of the wood is good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The polychromy may be refreshed and there is some craquelure to the paint. The corpus is carved in sections and stable joints are visible, including to the tops of both arms, running down the proper left side of the body, and to the drapery at the proper left side. The joints to Christ's back are slightly open and there appear to be restorations. It is possible that Christ's proper left leg is restored. There are a few small losses, including to Christ's proper right index finger and to the sunbursts attached to his head, one of which is slightly loose. There is some minor stable splitting to the wood consistent with material, including to the thorax. The nail in the proper left hand is slightly loose. There is minor non-active worming to the cross and a visible few joints and plugs. There is some splitting and a few losses.
