Description

  • signed and dated: A HAGER / 1919 and inscribed: FONDERIE. NATEL DES. BRONZES. / ST GILLES. BRUXELLES.

Condition

Overall the condition of the bronze is good with dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. One of the spikes on the adult elephant's harness is missing and there is a loss to the top of the remaining spike and to the Mahout's whip. There are a few areas of particular wear to the patina, including to the baby elephant's tail. The bronze is cast in sections and there are a few slightly visible original casting joints, including to the adult elephant's head, to the rope connecting the two elephants, and to the ground at the elephants' feet. There are a few minor spots of greening.
