Description
- Relief with the Virgin and Child in a pilaster frame
- polychromed stucco, in a gilt and polychromed wood frame
- North Italian, 16th century
the frame with the Christogram and two coats of arms with dragons rampant on the frieze
Condition
Overall the condition of the stucco is good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There are a few small losses including to the ground below the Virgin and to the right side and top left sides of the relief. There is wear to the polychromy particularly at the high points. The polychromy may have been refreshed in some areas. To the reverse of the relief, two strips of canvas have been applied probably to strengthen where the figural group meets the surround. The frame is in good condition. There is splitting to the wood consistent with material, particularly to the lunette. There are small losses to the painted decoration, and a few old restorations including one to the top of the left pilaster. There is minor non-active worming to the frame particularly on the left side.
