Condition

This painting is in good overall condition and is ready to hang. The canvas has not been lined. There is a pattern of faint, fine craquelure visible primarily in the background and in the figure's hair, and a light stretcher mark corresponding to the upper horizontal and central horizontal stretcher bars. Under ultraviolet light the old varnish layer fluoresces opaquely especially over the background, making the surface difficult to read; the only clearly visible retouchings are fine lines to a small restoration in the figure's red headdress and a few tiny spots. Held in a decorative gilt frame.
