Description

  • Frantisek Dvorak
  • The Dancing School, Prague
  • signed F. Dvořák lower right; with the estate stamp on the reverse
  • oil on canvas
  • 99 by 123.5cm., 39 by 48¾in.

Provenance

Estate of the artist; thence by descent in a German private collection to the previous owner

Condition

The canvas has been relined. Under ultraviolet light the varnish fluoresces opaquely in parts, obscuring a clear reading of the surface, however there appear to be relatively extensive areas of retouching notably in the floor, spots in the dancers in the distance and strokes in the face of the dancing instructor. The appearance of the work under normal light is good overall and it is ready to hang. Held in a decorative gilt frame.
