Description
- Giovanni Boldini
- La Bella Donna
- signed Boldini upper left
- oil on panel
- 52 by 33cm., 20½ by 13in.
Provenance
Private collection, Paris
Condition
The panel is flat and even and ensuring a stable structural support. Ultraviolet light reveals quite extensive strokes of retouching in the figure's skin tones, primarily in her left cheek, around her left eye, and scattered in her neck and chest, and strokes in the background chiefly to the left of her face and near her hair. Apart from some frame rubbing notably in the lower part of the extreme edge, and signs of paint shrinkage in the dark pigments of the background and the figure's hair, with some small spots of associated paint flaking in the back of her head, the overall appearance of the work under normal light is good.
Held in a decorative gilt frame.
