Condition
The canvas has not been lined. There is a pattern of craquelure overall and a stretcher mark relating to the horizontal upper stretcher bar, and two tiny spots of paint flaking near the centre of the upper framing edge and one in the newspaper. Although ultraviolet light does not reveal any clear signs of retouching, the old varnish fluoresces opaquely making the surface difficult to read.
Held in a rococco-style gilt frame.
