Condition
The canvas has not been lined. Under ultraviolet light the old varnish fluoresces quite opaquely over much of the surface obscuring a clear reading, however numerous signs of retouching are visible, notably strokes in the figure's forehead, neck, and in the wall to the right of her head; a circa 2 by 2cm spot of restoration in the newspaper or book; some small strokes in the lower right of her dress and the right of the armchair; and along parts of the framing edges. There is a layer of old surface dirt.
Held in a simple gilt frame.
