Condition

The board has been laid down, most probably by the artist, and is flat, even and ensuring a stable support. There is a handful of small spots and fine lines of surface scuffs and light abrasion, notably in the woman's left hand, in her chest, and in the man's shirt below the signature, and some light spots of frame rubbing at the extreme edges. Ultraviolet light reveals no signs of retouching. This painting is in good condition and its appearance could be further enhanced with conservation to address the minor spots of abrasion. Held in a simple gilt slope-away style frame.
