Condition
The canvas has not been lined. There is a very faint stretcher mark corresponding to the outer stretcher bars and the canvas is slightly slack on its stretcher. Ultraviolet light reveals strokes of retouching in the light-coloured band of the sky just above the horizon, and some further minor scattered spots, however over much of the rest of the composition the old varnish fluoresces opaquely, obscuring a clear reading of the surface under ultraviolet light. The overall appearance of the work is good.
Held in a simple painted frame.
