Provenance

Arsène Houssaye (acquired from the artist)
Hector Brame, Paris
Purchased from the above by the family of the present owner prior to the Second World War

Exhibited

Bordeaux, Galerie des Beaux-Arts, La Naissance de l'Impressionisme, 1974, no. 82

Condition

The canvas has been strip-lined along the four tacking edges. Under ultraviolet light only a handful of small retouchings are visible, however the thick even varnish fluoresces opaquely and it is probable that there are further retouchings in the sky which do not fluoresce clearly under ultraviolet light. The overall appearance of this painting is good and it is ready to hang. Presented in a decorative gilt rococo-style frame.
