Condition
The panel has a join horizontally circa 3cm below the upper edge, and is flat and even and ensuring a stable support. Under ultraviolet light the old varnish fluoresces quite opaquely, obscuring a clear reading of the surface, however there appear to be only a few minor spots of retouchings notably scattered along the framing edges, in the lid of the casket, and through the doorway near the left edge, in the dark pigments. This painting is in good condition and ready to hang.
The colours are richer and less pale overall than in the catalogue illustration.
Held in an elaborate gilt frame.
