Condition
The canvas has been relined. Ultraviolet light reveals quite extensive strokes of retouching in the sky, primarily in the left half, and further scattered strokes notably below the muzzle of the rightmost mule and above and around the standing, pointing man; elsewhere the old discoloured varnish fluoresces opaquely obscuring a clear reading of the surface and possibly obscuring further signs of retouching.
Held in a decorative gilt rococo-style frame.
The colours are less red overall than in the catalogue illustration.
