Condition

The canvas has not been lined. As visible in the catalogue illustration, there are some fine localised lines of craquelure predominantly in the figure's dress. Apart from some signs of retouching visible under ultraviolet light, notably a circa 7 by 10cm area of restoration in the gold-coloured pigments of the fur which the figure is sitting on, an area circa 2 by 2cm in the wall in the upper right quadrant (both patched on the reverse), and minor scattered spots of retouching, this painting is overall in good condition, and its appearance could be further enhanced with a light surface clean. Held in a simple frame, dark grey with gilt inner and outer borders. The colours are more vibrant overall in reality than in the catalogue illustration.
