Condition
The canvas has been relined. There is a pattern of very subtle hairline craquelure visible under close inspection. Ultraviolet light reveals some minor scattered signs of retouching, notably some very fine strokes addressing craquelure in the sky, to frame rubbing at the framing edges, and a stroke in the distance just above the horizon. This painting is in good condition and ready to hang.
Held in a decorative gilt frame.
The colours are rather richer and more contrasted overall in reality than in the catalogue illustration, with less of an orange-brown cast.
