discussing his son Giorgio's plan to visit London ("...he wishes to obtain an audition at the B.B.C...") and contacts who could assist his singing career, mentioning the publication of Finnegans Wake ("...I do not like particularly either the exorbitant price or the form of my book but I could do nothing about it...") and books he had sent Dulanty including "Chaucer's ABC with 24 letterings by my daughter" and Storiella as she is Syung, admitting his fondness for "poring over the lost, stolen or strayed advertisements in the Dublin papers", with family news, especially the recent ill health of his daughter-in-law Helen Joyce, and, in the final letter, sending condolences on the death of Dulanty's daughter ("...As you know we have had many years of grief with our own daughter but sad as that is anything is better than severance..."), written in green ink, 8 pages, folio and 4to, one with autograph envelope, 34 Rue des Vignes, Paris, and Hotel Beaujolais, Vichy, 12 May 1939 to 1 May 1940, minor fold tears

Catalogue Note
An unpublished series of letters to John Whelan Dulanty (1883-1955), the High Commissioner of the Irish Free State to London. Joyce had previously enlisted his help in his campaign to promote John Sullivan, and in these letters encourages him to support his son Giorgio's singing career.
