Catalogue Note
In November 1845 Dickens had agreed to edit a new daily newspaper to be published by Bradbury and Evans. The Daily News was due to launch on 21 January 1846 and by the time this letter was written, as Dickens explains, all positions within the paper had been filled. The additional workload of editing a newspaper proved beyond even Dickens's energies and he resigned on 9 February.
