Catalogue Note
This project inspired the Apollo Press Poets of 1776-1783 and thus the London booksellers' edition of 1779-1781 with prefaces by Johnson (see lot 268). It can be argued that the idea of a uniform edition of various authors' works started here. The first volume contains Milton's Paradise Lost and the final volume the verses of James Beattie of Aberdeen.
