Catalogue Note

Rare first edition. Walker was an author, preacher and bookseller whose controversial anti-episcopal views gained him such notoriety that many of his works were published anonymously. According to Taylor, with whom Walker became embroiled in a pamphlet exchange in 1642, Walker was an "ignoramus ironmonger and a scandalous preacher," the author of "seditious and scandalous libels" that, sold by "his ragged regiment of tatterdemallions," flooded the London book market.
