Catalogue Note
This celebrated erotic poem has traditionally been attributed to the Earl of Rochester but is more probably by John Sheffield, Earl of Mulgrave, the likely author too of the Essay on Satire which circulated in manuscript in 1679 and attacked prominent figures at court, most notably the King and Rochester himself.
Rare: ESTC lists only 5 copies.
