Catalogue Note

A contemporary manuscript copy of a lively and popular account of a trip to France written in facetious style by Peter Heylyn (1599-1662), a young clergyman. It had some early circulation in manuscript (a number of similar manuscript copies survive in institutional collections) and it was first printed in 1656 as France Painted to the Life from a scribal copy and without the author's permission.
