Catalogue Note

The drawing was used as the endpapers for Sir William Nicholson's famous 1922 edition of The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams. The DNB notes that Nicholson's 'natural sympathy with children produced work of great charm such as... his illustrations for Margery Williams's The Velveteen Rabbit'. This drawing is formerly from the collection of Marguerite Steen who published a work on the painter in 1943.
