Catalogue Note
The Jungle Book is inscribed by publisher, "Tho. Hughes from G. Macmillan June 1894". This is presumably the author Thomas Hughes (1822-1896), a long-time associate of the Macmillan family, whose most famous novel, Tom Brown's School Days (1857), was published by them. Hughes also wrote, in 1882, Memoir of Daniel Macmillan.
