Catalogue Note

An early commission signed by Cromwell into one of the most celebrated regiments in the British Army. Monck's Regiment of Foot was formed in 1650 as part of the New Model Army. Monck brought the regiment from Scotland to England - crossing the border at Coldstream - to enforce the Restoration in 1660, and in 1670 the Regiment was renamed the Coldstream Guards. Her Majesty's Coldstream Regiment of Foot Guards is today the oldest Regiment in continuous service in the British Army and forms part of the Household Division.
