Description
- Duncan Grant
- Still Life
- pencil and oil on panel
- 65 by 59cm., 25¾ by 23¼in.
Provenance
Piccadilly Gallery, London, where acquired by the previous owner, in the 1970s
Condition
There is a tiny pin hole to the bottom left hand quadrant. There are two further pin holes visible, the first in the upper left quadrant, the second to the centre of the extreme right hand edge. There are two areas of cracking to the panel, with further very minor cracks appearing down the centre of the composition. Elsewhere there are a few surface scuffs noticeable in the lower left and upper right quadrant, with lifting to the grey pigment in the lower right.
There is surface dirt with a further, light mould to the surface. There are two spots of possible loss or rubbing in the upper left hand quadrant, visible upon close inspection.
There is an unfinished sketch on the reverse.
Ultraviolet light reveals areas which fluoresce, which appear in keeping with the nature of the materials and do not suggest retouchings.
Housed in a thick gilt wooden frame.
