Catalogue Note
Henry Cahieux (1825-1854) was a Parisian sculptor who worked closely with the foundry of Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892), creating several models for casting in bronze. He exhibited at the Salon in the years between 1850 and 1853 and in 1855 Barbedienne presented this same model of a classical revival vase in the Exposition Universelle, being illustrated in the catalogue of the Exhibition. The vase was there described, together with one other, as “selected from many exquisite and beautiful decorative works in bronze from the atelier of Messrs. Barbedienne & Cie, of Paris; they are formed, and ornamented, on the best models of the ancient Greek.”
