Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is slighter warmer in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition. Extremely close inspection reveals some very light wear to the extreme lower right corner tip of the wooden frame, a pinhead-sized speck of surface deposit to the upped edge of the frame and an extremely thin surface scratch to the Plexiglas, approximately 30 centimeters from the centre of the left edge. Further close inspection reveals a small number of faint and unobtrusive artist's handling creases in a few isolated places along the horizontal edges.

Catalogue Note

“His drawings of nature, both celebrations and mockeries of the foolish cult of the picturesque, are filtered through the screen of the thousands of plein air drawings produced by artists over the last several centuries, all of which, whether inspired by the landscape of the Black Forest, the Lake District or suburban Connecticut, look suspiciously alike. They are generic, familiar, artful, illustrational, but enormously appealing.”
