Condition
Colour:
The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the yellow is more golden and the blue tends more towards turquoise in the original.
Condition:
This work is in very good condition. Very close inspection in raking light reveals a small number of faint and unobtrusive hairline surface scratches and tiny rub marks in a few isolated places. There is a small number of tiny specks of paint loss on the underside of the sculpture.

Catalogue Note
“I called my first exhibition with Nanas ‘Nana Power’. For me, they were the symbols of a cheerfully liberated woman. Today, after almost 20 years, I see them in a different light. I see them as forerunners of a new matriarchal age, which is to my mind the only answer. They represent the independent, good, giving, happy mother… When I made the Nanas, I knew nothing about the ‘Venus of Willendorf’, one of the first figurines to be created in a matriarchal society. It represented the goddess of fertility and looks exactly like one of my Nanas. When I saw the pictures of the Venus, I was fascinated. The unconscious dreams of the human beings who had lived more than 20 centuries ago were identical with my own.”
