Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the figures' tonality is darker and richer in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition. Extremely close inspection of the polished bronze elements reveals some light, isolated and unobtrusive surface scratches, specks of oxidisation and minor handling marks in a few places.

Catalogue Note

"[Chadwick] was constantly examining posture, defining physique by using drapery, for ever moving the figures in relation to each other, and in doing so creating an endless series of tensions. The figures on the stairs for example, although in close proximity, seem to barely recognise each other.”

Peter Osborne, Lynne Chadwick, London 2004, p. 6.
