Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustation are fairly accurate although the overall tonality is slightly warmer in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition. Close inspection reveals minor, unobtrusive handling marks in places to the extreme outer edges and some faint wear to the bottom right corner. There are oil stains and some undulation to the collaged sheets which are in keeping with the artist's choice of materials.
"In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective, qualified opinion. Prospective buyers should also refer to any Important Notices regarding this sale, which are printed in the Sale Catalogue.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF BUSINESS PRINTED IN THE SALE CATALOGUE."

Catalogue Note

“These works on paper are not just a means to an end. In themselves, they represent a pictorial cosmos which is more diverse and subversive than the paintings wold have us assume. This is particularly evident in his collage or combination paintings, like Mental States (Women of Tisbury Court), which demonstrates both the quality of the drawings and the control with which Condo masters the balancing act between the different media.”
