Condition
Colour:
The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate.
paperwork: there are less magenta undertones in the original and the table top tends more towards lime green.
canvas: the overall tonality is lighter in the original.
Condition:
This work is in very good condition.
paperwork: the sheet is attached to a backing board in several places on the reverse. The vertical edges are slightly uneven. All surface irregularities to the paper collage are inherent to the artist's working process. There is a tiny media accretion in the top right corner.
canvas: there is light wear and handling towards the edges. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultra-violent light.

Catalogue Note
“What justifies my recourse to painting is that it’s the shortest way – or the only way – to translate certain scenarios or situations that cannot be said, that cannot be filmed or performed. It’s about entering a situation that could not exist elsewhere, only on the paper on canvas.” (The artist, cited in Exhibition Catalogue, London, Tate Modern, Francis Alӱs, A Story of Deception, 2010, p. 38)
